Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is the
sixth and final film to be released in the Star Wars saga, but it is the third
part of the series by chronology of events.
Three years after the onset of the Clone Wars, the noble
Jedi Knights have been leading a massive clone army into a galaxy-wide battle
against the Separatists. When the sinister Sith, led by Darth Sidious, unveil a
thousand-year-old plot to rule the galaxy, the fate of Anakin Skywalker, the
Jedi order, and the entire galaxy is at stake. As the final film to be released
in the series, it bridges the gap between the original trilogy and prequel
trilogy of the Star Wars epic.
Released on May 19, 2005, the film was
generally positively received by critics, especially in contrast to the two
previous prequels. It broke several box office records in its opening week, and
went on to earn over US$ 850 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing
film of 2005 in the U.S., the 2nd highest grossing film of 2005 worldwide, and
the 12th highest grossing worldwide film of all time.
